ELISA: Epidemiology

Detect antibodies to SARS-Cov-2 using ELISA. Antibodies against infectious agents can be quantitated using the ELISA technique. This laboratory allows you to detect antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, the causative virus of the COVID-19 pandemic. The laboratory includes 60 serum samples from the UK adult population taken in August 2021. At this time, about 70% of the adult population had been vaccinated and 10% had been infected. Reagents are available to allow detection of antibodies against the viral spike protein and the nucleocapsid. Both vaccinated and infected individuals have antibodies to spike protein, but only previously infected individuals also have antibodies to the nucleocapsid. The laboratory also allows you to explore the impact of different experimental parameters on the sensitivity and specificity of the ELISA technique. The video describes how to use the laboratory and provides more information on the samples provided.
